Potential workplace issues

These are common problems migrant workers face. If any of these are happening to you, we can help.

• Underpayment or unpaid work: Your boss pays you less than minimum wage, pays you in cash to hide your hours, or makes you work for free.
• Money taken from your pay: Your employer takes money out of your wages for things you did not agree to, like accommodation, food, or “mistakes”.
• Fired without a fair reason: You were fired from your job suddenly, without a warning or a good reason. This is called “unfair dismissal”.
• Paying for your job or unpaid trials: You were asked to pay a fee to get the job, or you had to work a “trial shift” for free to “prove you could do the work”.
• Unsafe work: You are forced to do dangerous tasks, work without safety gear, or work until you are exhausted.
• Bullying and harassment: Your boss or co-workers yell at you, abuse you, or make you feel unsafe. This includes sexual harassment, unwanted touching or comments.
• Discrimination: You are treated worse than others because of your race, religion, gender, or because you are a migrant worker.
